CLASS
Community Living Assistance and Support Services


C.L.A.S.S. works with individuals to develop goals and customize plans leading to growth, self-determination and self-reliance.

Service area:  Hidalgo, Cameron, Willacy, Starr, Zapata, Webb, Brooks, Duval, Jim Hogg, and Kenedy counties.


Who Qualifies:

C.L.A.S.S. services are available to people who are developmentally disables, that is, disabled before age 22.  The disability may be due to a variety of conditions such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, epilepsy, head injuries, or any of approximately 200 related conditions.

Participants must be limited in at least three of the following life activities:

  • Learning

  • Mobility

  • Self-Care

  • Language

  • Self-Direction

  • Independent Living

In addition, participants must be receiving or eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or related Medicaid coverage.  Those with a primary diagnosis of mental retardation are not included in this program and should contact the Texas Department of MHMR for programs to meet those needs.
